High school students enrolled at Ankeny Christian Academy have the opportunity to qualify for the Iowa Seal of Biliteracy. Should students be able to demonstrate proficiency in both English and another language, they will be awarded a seal on their transcript to inform employers, universities, and scholarship providers that they have reached at least an intermediate level of proficiency in two or more languages.
Students may demonstrate their proficiency in English through one of the following tests:
|Advanced Placement (AP) Language or AP Literature Exam||3|
English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century (ELPA21) in grades 9 through 12
|All domains (reading, writing, speaking, and
listening): 4 or 5, which equates to an
overall proficiency of 3
|Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress
(ISASP) in grades 9 through 11
|English/Language Arts: Proficient|
|Past Iowa Assessment results in grades 9 through 11||Reading Comprehension: Proficient|
|Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)||Total score 80, no part score under 17|
|ACTFL Assessment of Performance Toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL)||Intermediate Two (I-2) (required on all
components: Interpretive Reading and
Listening, Interpersonal Listening and
Speaking, and Presentational Writing)
|Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency (STAMP) Exam||Intermediate-Mid (5) (5) (required on all components)|
To demonstrate proficiency in Spanish, French, or another language students will take the STAMP test (Standards Based Measurement of Proficiency). Students must score at the Intermediate-Mid (5) range or above on all components of the test (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). Students will be able to take the test at ACA, but will be responsible for the cost of the test.
