Let me introduce myself. My name is Neomi Nelson. Your children will know me as “Miss Neomi” or (if my first name is too challenging) as “Miss Nomee”. I will be the Lead Teacher in your son/daughters 3 year and 4 year old child care room.
I have many years of experience working with this age of children beginning as a pre-teen with helping my cousin out in her child care/preschool whenever I could talk my mom into driving me to town. I helped supplement my college expenses by working in a child care center. In my 20’s and 30’s I worked in preschool classrooms. In one setting, I promoted to director of the facility, supervising many staff and overseeing the care of children ages 3 weeks to 12 years old.
My husband, Chad, and I were married several years before we had children to call our own. We chose to build our family through adoption. This process was preceded by 10 years of doing foster care. My husband and I have adopted 5 awesome, beautiful children. During their growing up years, in order to match schedules, I worked with adult/children with special needs and in school settings. I have previously worked here at ACA for 3 years as the Food Services/Recess Director.
My children are all now young adults and teenagers so working again with children 3 and 4 years old is a breath of fresh air. I am already enjoying their questions of wonder such as; “Why? and “What is that?”. Wiping tears, going potty, and helping “friends” find their words are as important as learning to cut and count. I cooperate with the preschool program to reinforce what they are learning.
Jesus instructed his disciples not to scold or chase the children away but instead to become as teachable and soft-hearted as they are. Matthew 18:3 reads, “And he said: ‘Truly I tell you unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’ ” (See also Matt. 19:14, Mark 9:37, Mark 10:13-14, and Luke 18:15-16.)
God the Creator of the universe and mankind thought it was so important to relate to us that he humbled himself to be born a child who had to “[Grow] in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52.
It is a blessing to teach in the setting of Ankeny Christian Academy where we can combine [beginning] academics, faith, friendship and fun. I am looking forward to a year of growth (physically & spiritually) for myself and my “friends”.
Let’s keep the doors of communication open and have a FUN year together!
