Carolyn was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a teaching degree in Junior High Education and English. She taught in Urbandale Community Schools, Monterey County Schools (California), San Angelo Schools (Texas) and Heritage Christian School (Ohio). While at Heritage, Carolyn also entered into Christian school administration and served as a junior and senior high principal, senior high guidance counselor, academic dean, and administrator. Carolyn served as the first administrator at Ankeny Christian Academy. After leaving ACA, Carolyn served as an account representative for Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest. She is currently retired.
Carolyn has been married for over 50 years and she and her husband Cloud have three children who graduated from a Christian school in Ohio. They have six grandchildren.
Carolyn is a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ankeny. She is the ministry team leader and a small group Bible study facilitator.
Serving on the ACA Foundation Board allows Carolyn the opportunity to stay involved at Ankeny Christian Academy. The entire time that she served at ACA, she witnessed God’s goodness in providing for the school ministry and she states that she saw miracles happen on a daily basis in the lives of the faculty, staff, parents, students, and friends of ACA. Carolyn feels that Ankeny Christian Academy was and still remains one of the most exciting ministries she has ever been involved with.
When Carolyn entered Christian school ministry, God gave her Proverbs 3:5-6 as the verse for her first year. She states that she felt so inadequate, but she knew that God had opened the door and had placed her in that ministry and that she needed to trust Him and allow him to direct.
Carolyn feels that Ohio Christian school ministry was the training ground for her to later be used of Him in assisting with the founding and establishing of Ankeny Christian Academy. Proverbs 3:5-6 and Isaiah 26:3 have been her verses throughout her 25 years of Christian school ministry and are now her life verses as she volunteers in ministry throughout her retirement years.
