I grew up in quite a dysfunctional and unsaved home, never hearing anything about the Gospel and my need of salvation until I was 10 years old. God used two different families to bring me to the point that I recognized my need of a Savior. We had new neighbors move in and I noticed right away that there was something different about them – they talked about God all the time and they went to church a lot. They often told us that God loved us. At that time, my mother decided to go back to work, so my twin sister, little brother, and I were sent to a babysitter each day for the summer. I noticed right away that this family was very much like our new neighbors – they talked about this God stuff all the time too! This family reached out to my sister and me, taking us to their church’s Vacation Bible School. Each night I heard truths such as there was a Heavenly Father who loved me so much that He sent His son to die on the cross for me. I did not have any trouble recognizing that I was a sinner (I was not a nice child!), but I struggled with understanding the love of God the Father – it seemed so different than what I experienced in my home life with my own father. But there was something about all this God stuff that completely drew us in and we looked forward to attending each night. We even invited our new neighbors, assuming they would like it because of all the God talk. On the last night there was a skit about how those who didn’t know the Lord were stumbling around in the darkness. I knew right away that this was what I was doing and I wanted to be saved from my sin. I went forward and a counselor helped me to understand the Gospel before I prayed and accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation! My twin sister was saved about a week later. I praise God for how He has worked in my life!
I am married to my best friend, Breck, and we have two children, Josiah and Charity. They both graduated from ACA. We are just beginning the empty-nester stage. We attend Ankeny Baptist Church where I serve in ministries such as AWANA and the nursery.
I attended Faith Baptist Bible College where I obtained a degree in Biblical Studies and Counseling. Then I started working in my children’s school and realized that God wanted me to be a teacher. I went back to Faith and completed my Elementary Education degree. Last year I was able to finish a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Morningside College.
I have also had the privilege of coaching high school volleyball at ACA for the past 10 years. I love working with the girls and teaching them that volleyball is a tool God uses to grow us in Christian walk. In my spare time I also train in and teach taekwondo, read, and play board games with my family.
I am so excited to be back teaching at ACA! I previously taught here for 9 years, mostly in the upper elementary grades, so I feel like I am coming back home! I truly love this school and believe that God does amazing things here – I am blessed to be a part of it.
